Dumb Check In ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our Slack application.
Slack Permissions We Request
When you install Dumb Check In, we request the following Slack permissions:
- Send messages (chat:write): To post standup summaries and responses to channels
- Send direct messages (im:write, im:history): To send standup prompts and receive your responses via DM
- Read channel info (channels:read, groups:read): To verify the bot is added to channels where standups run
- Read channel history (channels:history, groups:history): To find and update standup threads
- Read user profiles (users:read): To get display names and timezones for scheduling
- Slash commands (commands): To respond to the /dumbcheckin command
What Data We Store
We store only what's necessary to run the service:
- Workspace data: Team ID, team name, bot tokens, and who installed the app
- Standup configurations: Names, schedules, timezones, questions, and channel IDs
- Membership: Slack user IDs of participants (not emails or profile data)
- Responses: The answers submitted to standup questions
- Billing: Stripe customer ID and subscription status (payment details are stored by Stripe, not us)
We do not store email addresses, passwords, or full Slack profiles.
How We Use Your Data
Your data is used exclusively to:
- Send scheduled standup questions to team members via Slack DM
- Collect and post standup responses to your designated Slack channel
- Maintain your standup configurations and schedules
- Process payments if you subscribe to a paid plan
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR & CCPA)
For users in the European Economic Area (GDPR) and California (CCPA), we process your data based on:
- Contract performance: Processing necessary to provide the standup service you requested
- Legitimate interests: To improve our service and ensure security, where this doesn't override your rights
- Legal obligations: To comply with applicable laws (e.g., billing records)
We do not sell personal information. California residents have the right to know what data we collect, request deletion, and opt-out of any sale of personal information (which we do not engage in).
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely. We implement industry-standard security measures including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
- Encrypted token storage
- Regular security updates
- Access controls and authentication
Third-Party Services
We integrate with the following third-party services:
- Slack: To send messages and interact with your workspace (Slack Privacy Policy)
- Stripe: To process payments securely (Stripe Privacy Policy)
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your workspace has the app installed:
- While active: Standup responses are retained indefinitely while the app is installed, allowing you to maintain historical records
- Standup configurations: Retained until you delete them or uninstall the app
When you uninstall Dumb Check In from your Slack workspace:
- Standup configurations and responses are deleted within 30 days
- Authentication tokens are revoked immediately
- Billing information is retained as required by law
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of your data stored in our system
- Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data
- Erasure: Request deletion of your data
- Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format
- Object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Withdraw consent: Uninstall the app at any time from your Slack workspace
